About this event
All are welcome to join us for Robert L. Brainard's talk "How Light is Used to Make Computer Chips: An Introduction to Photoresists for the General Public." Discover how light-sensitive photoresists enable precise patterning of computer chips, making modern electronics faster, smaller, and smarter.
Dr. Robert Brainard is a Professor in the Department of Nanoscale Science and Engineering at the University at Albany’s College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering (CNSE). He earned his B.S. in Chemistry from UC Berkeley, a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from MIT, and completed postdoctoral research at Stanford University. Before joining academia, he spent nearly two decades in industry developing advanced photoresists at Shipley/Rohm & Haas. Dr. Brainard is widely recognized as the first chemist to design photoresists for extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography, a technology now central to manufacturing advanced computer chips. His research focuses on photoresist materials, EUV exposure mechanisms, and next-generation nanofabrication technologies.
Doors open at 5:15 p.m. Registration preferred, not required.
