BUSINESS NEWS

  • Siena Research Institute integrated with ReconMR to combine call centers and boost research capacity, shifting from temporary workers to full ReconMR staff and expecting an annual benefit of up to $500k. The deal will enhance survey quality across New York and Texas.  Times Union

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Egg held a grand opening celebration to showcase its nearly $20 million renovation + local guests enjoyed a DJ, aerial acrobats and fun activities at the upgraded venue.  NewsChannel 13

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The state Department of Environmental Conservation recommended banning bait fish across most of Adirondack Park to protect native brook trout from invasive species introduced by anglers. The proposal exempts 143 lakes and ponds and parts of seven rivers and will be released for public comment.  Times Union

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mayor Dorcey Applyrs held an inaugural ball on Jan. 3 at Albany Capital Center. Photos of the celebration were taken by Andrew Elder (Best Frame Forward).  Times Union
  • The Stuyvesant Falls Bridge on Co. Rte. 25A over Kinderhook Creek will close on Monday, Jan. 12 for repairs after a fall inspection found needed work — detours are posted while the sidewalk stays open.  WRGB

HEALTH NEWS

  • New York public health officials have raised concerns over the CDC’s revised childhood vaccine schedule, which may affect local immunization practices. State agencies will continue monitoring developments & adjust guidelines as needed.  Spotlight News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Albany’s trailblazer in women’s athletics, Caryl Newhof, had a 43-year career at Smith College and was honored in the Albany Academies Athletic Hall of Fame — she died this past November at age 99, leaving a legacy in women’s sports.  Times Union
  • UAlbany introduced Tom Perkovich as its new head football coach at the Broadview Center earlier this week; the Western New York native, who had a strong record at Susquehanna, will lead the team as it opens its season on Aug. 28 at Casey Stadium.  University at Albany
