BUSINESS NEWS

  • Neil Levine, co-owner of Colonial Cleaners, died unexpectedly on Jan. 5 at his Loudonville home, prompting the family to limit service to pick-ups until March 31 and plan to sell the 177 North Allen St. location while funeral services were held on Jan. 11.  Times Union
  • Plug Power in Slingerlands sued its former president Sanjay Shrestha for allegedly breaching agreements after his October resignation and recruiting staff for his new Saratoga Springs energy firm; the suit was filed Jan. 9 in Albany state Supreme Court and alleges violations of his contract.  Times Union
  • Back Barn Brewing will open a new location in Ballston Spa inside the historic Doubleday House at 28 Washington Street + the company will share more details on its opening date soon.  NewsChannel 13

CULTURE NEWS

  • Families gathered at the Capital District Latinos Community Center in Albany Saturday to celebrate Three Kings Day — the event featured a large toy giveaway, food, crafts, and a puppet show on the history of the Three Kings.  Times Union

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Bethlehem Central School District board reconvened on Jan. 7 to review new rezoning proposals and will choose between two options for attendance boundaries at its Jan. 21 meeting + details on the final plan will be shared later.  Spotlight News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • New York National Guard teams performed 6,166 military funeral honors last year across state cemeteries, training intensively to present final respects to veterans. Sgt. Justin Kehati observed that the drop in daily services comes as fewer World War II and Korean War veterans remain.  Times Union

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Monday, Jan. 12, radio host Ray Graf featured board-certified neurologist Dr. David Hart from the Stratton VA Medical Center in a Medical Monday segment. Dr. Hart, who has practiced in Albany for over 25 years (focusing on Alzheimer’s care), discussed clinical trials and treatment updates.  WAMC

SPORTS NEWS

  • UAlbany women’s rowing announced its Spring schedule of seven regattas from late March to mid-May that includes a first CAA Championship appearance in Pennsauken, with competition beginning on March 21 at the John Ferriss Regatta in Gainesville (Ga.).  University at Albany
  • The UAlbany men’s basketball team will host Binghamton for (Mascot Madness) on Thursday, Jan. 15 at 6:30 p.m. at Broadview Center. The game is part of a three game homestand in the America East Conference.  University at Albany
  • Season tickets for the 2026 UAlbany football season are now on sale at $125 for five home games, with a Friday night opener on Aug. 28 at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium. Returning holders can renew online while new fans choose packages, with full payment due by Aug. 1.  University at Albany
