  • The Center for Law and Justice will host its annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration on Monday, Jan. 19 at 1 p.m. at The Alice Moore Black Arts and Cultural Center (135 South Pearl Street) where community leaders will speak on unity and collaboration in Albany.  WRGB

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Cathedral in Bloom floral showcase returns at the Cathedral of All Saints, 62 South Swan St., through Sunday. The event features dozens of displays, workshops + guided tours with general admission at $15.  Times Union

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Assemblymember Santabarbara is calling for enforceable statewide safeguards after an 8-year-old was reportedly confined in a wooden box at Salmon River and a second-grader was restrained at Lincoln Elementary in Schenectady. Staff have been suspended & a proposed bill would mandate same-day parental notification.  WRGB

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new clinic partnering Albany Med and Maria College will open in six weeks to help patients after hospital visits. It is set up on the first floor of Albany Med’s Physicians Pavilion (designed to offer hands-on training for nursing students and improve follow-up care).  WRGB
  • A local organization will host Picklers Go Purple, a pickleball fundraising event for the Alzheimer’s Association, on Saturday, Jan. 24 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Picklers Pickleball Club in Menands to support local care services and research.  WRGB
