COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Delanson’s locally owned wrestling fundraiser The Dynasty will host the Cupid’s Chokehold show on Saturday, Feb. 7 to offer family-friendly fun. The event invites kids & families to cheer and support a local community cause.  WRGB

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Saturday, Jan. 31, about 10,000 fans gathered at MVP Arena to watch Rascal Flatts perform a 90-minute set featuring hits such as 'My Wish' + 'Life is a Highway.' The band followed sets by Lauren Alaina and Chris Lane, marking a memorable country music evening.  Times Union
  • The New York State Museum will host a Galentine’s event on Feb. 13 offering mocktails, crafts, and exclusive exhibit access for friends, and a winter break two-day rock and fossil fair for kids where museum scientists will lead hands-on learning, all backed by state funding.  WAMC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lawmakers have introduced bills to ban timeout boxes in Salmon River schools after records showed a district built one and placed staff on leave. Investigations are underway and further review of state education rules is expected soon.  Times Union

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The NYS Department of Veterans Services will host a virtual program called “The Weight and The Witness” on Friday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to honor Black veterans through art and storytelling (featuring guest speaker Mayor Dorcey Applyrs).  WRGB

HEALTH NEWS

  • The American Cancer Society hosted its fourth annual event at Colonie Center to raise cancer awareness amid federal funding cuts before World Cancer Day on Feb. 4. The organization urged local residents to join a cancer action day in Albany on April 21 + meet lawmakers to support research.  WRGB
