HEALTH NEWS

  • Cardiologists will host a Heart to Heart Stroll at Colonie Center this February (American Heart Month) to promote stroke awareness and heart health. The event offers local residents a chance to learn simple tips to prevent heart disease.  WRGB
  • The Remote Area Medical Clinic will hold a rural volunteer health event on April 11 and 12 at Schuylerville Central School on Spring Street, asking optometrists, ophthalmologists, nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians and general support volunteers to help fill care gaps.  WRGB

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Saturday afternoon, the UAlbany men's lacrosse team earned its first season win by beating Drexel 17 to 9 at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium. The team will play UMass next Saturday at 12:00 p.m. in Amherst.  University at Albany
  • UAlbany Men's Basketball lost to UMBC 66-62 in Baltimore Saturday night as the team struggled with late turnovers; they will host Maine on Thursday, Feb. 26 at Broadview Center.  University at Albany
  • UAlbany women's track team earned second place at the America East Indoor championship at BU Track and Tennis Center (Boston) today; they also won gold in the 4x800m relay and DMR, and earned podium finishes in individual events.  University at Albany
  • The UAlbany women’s lacrosse team beat No. 25 Harvard 13+12 in overtime Saturday at John Fallon Field, with freshman Riley Forthofer scoring the winning goal; the team will face Niagara University on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 3:00 p.m.  University at Albany
  • The 48th Delightful Run for Women launches the TrainHER Challenge on Monday, Mar. 23, inviting past runners to recruit new participants with a virtual option and $5 from each registration donated to Northern Rivers. The challenge culminates with the run on May 30 in downtown Albany.  WRGB
  • UAlbany's men's track team finished second at the America East Indoor meet at BU Track & Tennis Center in Boston, setting a new meet record in the 4x800m relay by beating a 14-year-old mark nearly two seconds. Sophomore Tooni Ogunyeye also won gold in the 60m and 200m events.  University at Albany
  • The University at Albany women’s basketball team won a double-overtime game on senior day at Broadview Center on Saturday evening, 69-63, led by clutch plays from Martina Borrellas. The Great Danes will finish the regular season with road games on Feb. 26 and Feb. 28.  University at Albany
  • UAlbany’s baseball team lost both Saturday games to Texas Tech at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park, showing strong effort in the second game with a three-run home run by Luke Filippi + contributions from teammates. They will play again tomorrow at 2:00 p.m.  University at Albany
