  • On Saturday, young athletes participated in a March Madness style basketball showcase at Washington Avenue Armory organized by the Albany Police Athletic League. The event provided fee-free play with local adults supporting the kids (cheering them on) on the court.  WRGB

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Latham 76 Diner, a local landmark, sold for $4.2M on Mar. 7 after 53 years of family ownership. The new owner (an El Salvador native who moved to the US as a teen) confirmed the sale.  WRGB

CULTURE NEWS

  • A local sensory gym is hosting Women’s History Month events to honor neurodivergent individuals — featuring mentorship programs led by founder Lisa Audi. The initiative will offer engaging activities for children and adults as the community prepares to celebrate women's achievements.  WAMC

HEALTH NEWS

  • St. Peter’s Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Albany will close as a $60M upgrade need exceeds available funds. The Health Department-approved plan will transition 96 residents, and a community meeting is set for Friday, Mar. 20 at Mercy Auditorium (further details pending).  NewsChannel 13

SPORTS NEWS

  • UAlbany women's lacrosse team beat Colgate 16-13 on Saturday afternoon at Crown Field at Andy Kerr Stadium in Hamilton — four players scored multiple goals. The team will play Wagner on Wednesday, Mar. 11 at 3:00 p.m. at home at John Fallon Field.  University at Albany
  • UAlbany’s men’s basketball season ended with a 76-81 loss to UMass Lowell at the Kennedy Family Athletic Complex. Coach Killings praised Amir Lindsey (30 points) for his leadership but said a late run by the opponent cost the team their tournament hopes.  University at Albany
  • UAlbany's men's lacrosse team beat Hobart 14-10 on Saturday at Tom and Mary Casey Stadium. Koleton Marquis led the scoring (with four goals) as the team prepares to face Georgetown Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.  University at Albany
