CULTURE NEWS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UAlbany women’s rowing had 18 student-athletes on the CAA Academic Honor Roll for fall 2025. The team included five with High Honors with Distinction, five with High Honors, and 10 with Honors - all meeting a minimum 3.0 GPA requirement.  University at Albany
  • More than a dozen college and university leaders unveiled the Capital Region Higher Ed for All program with Albany High School Wednesday, Mar. 18 — a collaboration aimed at boosting enrollment and offering students career paths with better job stability.  WRGB

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Kate Courtin of the Environmental Defense Fund explained state leaders are mulling changes to the climate law to boost clean energy and lower bills through a cap and invest program (set to offer rebates, energy upgrades and job growth) that could benefit households statewide.  WAMC

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Crews began work this morning on renovating the historic Selfridge and Langford building to create 49 affordable apartments + 3,900 sqft of commercial space. The $20M project will add new building systems and energy-efficient heating.  NewsChannel 13

SPORTS NEWS

  • UAlbany Athletics raised $270,011 during the recent March Matchness campaign, with Football and Men's Lacrosse setting record contributions to support vital programs like national travel and improved performance technology. The effort was part of a total $667,547 raised by 1,524 donors.  University at Albany
  • The Great Danes are set to start the 2026 outdoor season as reigning America East Champions, with proven medalists and newcomers returning. Their schedule features meets beginning Mar. 20 at USF (and local events from Apr. 17) as top runners aim to defend their records.  University at Albany
  • The UAlbany football team had 58 players named to the CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll for the fall semester, which honored more than 800 student-athletes based on grades (High Honors with Distinction, High Honors, and Honors) after meeting a 3.0 GPA requirement.  University at Albany
  • Siena University students are eager to cheer on the Saints as they play against Duke today in the NCAA Tournament; many left at 6 p.m. March 18 and arrived at 7 a.m. this morning (adjusting class schedules for the historic game).  NewsChannel 13
  • UAlbany’s baseball team lost to Army West Point at Doubleday Field on Wednesday afternoon when an eight-run fifth inning led to a 12-2 score (Army pulled ahead decisively). The Great Danes will begin conference play at NJIT from March 20 to 22.  University at Albany
