ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • State Police said a home on Bruecker Lane in Hurley exploded on March 20, killing 75-year-old Ralph Brueckner and 58-year-old Cheryl Hathaway as firefighters put out the flames before troopers searched the wreckage.  Times Union

CRIME NEWS

  • A 32-year-old Albany woman, Latisha Ellis, was arrested for aggravated cruelty to animals after police found a burned pit bull in a crate near Fourth Avenue and Franklin Street on February 24—she is scheduled to appear in Albany City Criminal Court today and officers also recovered a 3-year-old male dog living in poor conditions at her residence.  WRGB

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences partnered with St. Peter’s Health Partners to launch a new nursing program that will let students earn both an associate and a bachelor’s degree as they prepare for the RN exam. The program will start in Fall 2025 with on-campus courses and two years of clinical training—applications are now being accepted.  ABC NEWS 10

  • The Firefighters Association of the State of New York kicked off its 16th annual recruitment campaign — urging New Yorkers to join local fire departments across the state. Local departments will host RecruitNY events on April 26 or April 27 — offering details on how to volunteer.  ABC NEWS 10
  • New York Gov. Kathy Hochul visited Eagle Point Elementary School in Albany on March 20 to promote a free school meals proposal as a state budget deadline nears. She said the plan would cover full meal costs and boost family savings by about $1600 per child + federal funding cuts could risk current support for school nutrition.  WAMC
  • Albany town hall is addressing New York state budget concerns today as residents learn about the state's 2026 financial plans and voice questions on education, healthcare, infrastructure and affordability. State Senator Patricia Fahy along with Assemblymembers Gabriella Romero and John T. McDonald III will join the meeting at Page Hall on the University at Albany campus (6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.).  WRGB
