  • Students from the Empire State Youth Orchestra played at Crossgates Mall on Saturday (Mar. 21) in their annual Play-A-Thon that raised funds for youth programs and boosted community spirit.  WRGB

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Superintendent Shannon Shine of Mohonasen Central School District said the district is facing future deficits amid rising costs—transportation, health insurance and retirement—as Foundation Aid falls short. The district is revising its five-year plan to address these challenges.  The Daily Gazette

  • The Great Danes track and field team recorded four top 10 marks at USF Track and Field Stadium in Tampa, kicking off their 2026 season — they will return to Florida on Apr. 3 to 4 for the Pepsi Relays while some athletes compete in the UConn Dog Fight Meet.  University at Albany
  • The University at Albany women’s rowing team won first in the Varsity 8+ and Second Varsity 8+ events at the John Ferris Regatta today at Lake Lanier in Gainesville, Georgia with times of 7:21.347+7:29.079. The Great Danes will race again in Sarasota, Florida on Friday, Mar. 27.  University at Albany
  • The UAlbany men’s lacrosse team beat UMBC 10-6 on Saturday at UMBC Stadium in Baltimore, Md — the win moves them to 2-0 in conference play and they will face UMass Lowell next Saturday.  University at Albany
  • UAlbany women's lacrosse beat UMass Lowell 19-10 at John Fallon Field in the annual Every Child Matters game held today. Ravan Marsell led with nine points plus several teammates helped secure the win, and the team will play Syracuse on Tuesday, Mar. 24 at 3:00 p.m.  University at Albany
  • UAlbany men's track team opened its 2026 outdoor season with strong finishes by Steve Hines & Jed Elmbarki at USF Track Field Stadium in Tampa, Fla. The team will return to Florida for the Pepsi Relays on Apr. 3-4 and compete in the UConn Dog Fight Meet on Apr. 4.  University at Albany
  • The Great Danes fell to NJIT 5-4 in extra innings at Yogi Berra Stadium on Saturday afternoon. UAlbany will finish the series tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. and look to bounce back in the rubber game.  University at Albany
