EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Monday, Cohoes High School previewed a new metal detector screening system that will be fully in place on March 30, where students lock their phones in a pouch and place metal items on a table (a process aimed at keeping the school safe).  WRGB
  • Students and local advocates gathered outside the New York State Capitol yesterday to call for expanded bus routes and free rides for those who do not meet the district's 1.5-mile rule. A school spokesperson said that adding more rides would require 120 extra buses (a challenge for current resources).  WAMC

HEALTH NEWS

  • A student-run clinic in downtown Albany is offering affordable counseling on a sliding scale starting at $45 along Washington Avenue. UAlbany psychology students deliver sessions under close supervision (ensuring confidentiality and quality care) to help reduce the stigma around mental health services.  WRGB
  • Yesterday, Medical Monday featured Dr. David Perlmutter from Perlmutter Eye Center discussing cataract surgery + glaucoma treatment and retinal care. Hosted by Ray Graf, the program invited local viewers to call with their questions.  WAMC

  • University at Albany men's lacrosse player Max Neeson was named America East Defensive Player of the Week after recording two turnovers and two ground balls in the team's 10-6 win over UMBC on Monday morning + the Danes will play UMass Lowell on Saturday, Mar. 28 at 4:00 p.m.  University at Albany
