CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A New York City man—Steven Price—admitted to withdrawing $59,700 from an Albany County resident’s bank account in September 2023 and pleaded guilty to grand larceny at Albany County Court, with his sentencing set for May 23 where he faces 4 to 8 years in prison. NewsChannel 13
- ➤ An Albany man pleaded guilty to federal wire fraud and identity theft for using stolen identities to collect over $143,000 in unemployment benefits and deposit more than $9,000 from tax refund checks during April 2020 to April 2021—he agreed to pay $143,178 to New York, $3,225 to the Treasury, and $6,075 to the victims. - ➤ The Empire State Youth Orchestra will perform two concerts at Troy Savings Bank Music Hall—Fluid Realities: An Orchestral Exploration featuring Symphonie Fantastique on March 30th at 3:00 p.m. and Symphony Orchestra with RPI Symphony Orchestra on April 5th at 2:00 p.m. The concerts will feature conductor Etienne Abelin along with guest conductor Robert Whalen and cellist Abi Norsworthy. - ➤ Albany police have worked to recruit new officers and improve youth interactions through the Strategies for Youth program that teaches officers how to communicate effectively with kids. Interim Police Chief Brendan Cox plans to reintroduce the program as residents call for better training—aimed at keeping young people out of trouble. WRGB
- ➤ An executive order in New York stops state agencies from rehiring correction officers fired for not returning to work after a prison strike and bans appointing, transferring & promoting them until April 9. The order also requires the Department of Corrections & Community Supervision to report these officers for decertification, while three have been hired by a county and others are in the process of being considered for new jobs. - ➤ New York Governor Kathy Hochul is proposing changes to the state's discovery law as part of the 2026 executive budget to enhance fairness, speed up case processing, and reduce pretrial incarceration + protect witness data using expanded automatic redaction. Her proposal follows a nearly 15% increase in dismissed domestic violence cases in New York City and includes personal remarks drawn from her mother's experience. WRGB

- ➤ The New York State Department of Health has extended the registration for CDPAP to April 30—giving home care workers extra time to sign up and receive retroactive payment for April hours.
