CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Watervliet man, identified as Jahnye Griffin, 21, was charged with attempted murder after he attacked an adult man in Troy on March 24, leaving the victim seriously injured and taking his cell phone—police say they linked the suspect and victim through online contact. WRGB
- ➤ Devaughn Hall (32) from Cohoes was sentenced to 10 to 15 years in prison for two burglaries in which he stole more than $50,000 worth of valuables, with police finding some stolen items during a February home search. ABC NEWS 10

- ➤ On May 10 and 11 the City of Albany will host the 77th Annual Tulip Festival in Washington Park with free admission for all. The event will feature over 100,000 tulips, live music, artisan crafts and family activities—while local educational programs receive support from its proceeds. WRGB
- ➤ Empire State Youth Orchestra and RPI’s Rensselaer Orchestra will perform Fluid Realities this weekend at RPI’s concert venue. Conductor Etienne Abelin said the concerts began as a way for young musicians to learn from experienced players—an effort that will feature a concerto competition. WRGB

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Tenants at the Ida Yarbrough Apartments in Albany formed a union and marched on March 28 to protest unsafe living conditions marked by rodent infestations, mold, and locked emergency exits. The Albany Housing Authority said it had fixed some issues and planned a meeting with tenants and law enforcement to discuss further improvements. WRGB
- ➤ Last Friday, the Legal Aid Society released a report that said the long unauthorized strike by DOCCS staff hurt many prisoners in upstate facilities by cutting off proper care, food, and contact with others—personal accounts noted missed medical visits, inedible meals, and harsh isolation. The report calls on state officials to quickly improve safety and care for inmates—measures needed to end the continued harm. WRGB
- ➤ The U.S. Postal Service will hold nine job fairs in the Capital Region from April 2 to April 24 to fill City Carrier Assistant and Rural Carrier Associate positions, with wages starting at $19.33 and $20.38 per hour — the events will be held at sites including Capital Region BOCES, Albany General Mail Facility, Glenmont Post Office, Empire State Plaza Convention Center, and Stamford Post Office. Applicants must be at least 18, available on weekends and holidays, and pass background and drug screenings — online applications are also accepted. ABC NEWS 10
- ➤ Yesterday, the Legal Aid Society released a report about a 22-day strike by correction officers that left prisoners in state facilities with food shortages, limited medical care, and poor conditions.
