EDUCATION NEWS

  • University at Albany graduate student Pallav Savaliya will present his research on hybrid third spaces designed to boost community interaction at the annual Showcase Day. The free event is held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Apr. 30 on the Uptown Campus.  University at Albany
  • UAlbany will host its second STEM and Earth Sciences Family Day at ETEC (Harriman campus) on Saturday, Apr. 11 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The free event will feature over 30 hands-on activities for families and students to explore topics such as climate, nanotechnology and sustainability.  University at Albany
  • UAlbany will launch two new bachelor’s programs in mechanical engineering this fall at its College of Nanotechnology, Science and Engineering + students can specialize in design or mechatronics with a biomechanics option and benefit from transfer pathways with community colleges.  University at Albany

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The IRS phased out paper checks last September in favor of electronic refunds; taxpayers in Niskayuna must set up direct deposit or use similar electronic options as the 2026 tax season nears its April 15 deadline.  WRGB

HEALTH NEWS

  • WAMC aired Virology with Eric Yager yesterday at 1:42 p.m. as he discussed measles and seasonal colds and flu, with host Ray Graf inviting questions (call 800-348-2551 at 2 p.m.).  WAMC

SPORTS NEWS

  • The UAlbany softball team hit five home runs in a doubleheader against CCSU on Wednesday at UAlbany Field, winning both games by shutout 4-0 and 8-2. The team will travel to Binghamton for a three-game series on Apr. 3-4.  University at Albany
  • UAlbany baseball announced that its series against UMass Lowell will be played at LeLacheur Park in Lowell due to wet conditions in Albany, with games scheduled for 5 p.m. today, 5 p.m. Friday, and 1 p.m. Saturday. A home contest against LIU is set for April 7 at 3:00 p.m.  University at Albany
