CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Marcus Lewis, a 33-year-old from Tuscaloosa, was arrested Tuesday after Albany police found a loaded 9mm handgun in his car during a traffic stop near Madison and Delaware Avenue and later near Henry Johnson Boulevard and State Street, and he was arraigned before being remanded to Albany County Jail with bail set at $50,000. - ➤ Akili Abdul-Ducan, a former technology teacher at Farnsworth Middle School currently on administrative leave, was arrested late March in two communities and went before a judge Wednesday morning at Rensselaer City Court to face weapons charges in both Guilderland and Rensselaer—his case for a separate incident is postponed until April 17th. - ➤ Thomas McGrath, 71—who had past DWI arrests—pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter and impaired driving in May 2023, accepting a four- to 12-year sentence for the fatal crash that killed Colonie Central High School senior Michael Kleinke, leaving his family heartbroken. WRGB

- ➤ A federal judge postponed the transition of New York’s Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program—set to switch to Public Partnerships LLC—from its planned April 1 start until Friday, keeping over 600 companies operational and addressing concerns from lawmakers and home care advocates. About 195,000 of 250,000 consumers have enrolled, and a late registration window remains open until April 30. WAMC
- ➤ A water main break at Wood Terrace and Mohican Place left several homes without water service—officials turned off the main and advise residents to run cold water if discolored water persists. WRGB
- ➤ Town of Colonie will expand its goose control efforts as it contracts Wild Goose Chase NE to deploy specially trained Border collies to chase geese off town properties — including the town golf course, William K. Sanford Library and Memorial Town Hall—to lessen health risks from droppings amid rising avian flu concerns. Town Supervisor Peter Crummey said the visits will begin later in April and the contract is capped at $10,620. Spotlight News

- ➤ A new CAR-T cancer treatment—using patients’ own immune cells to fight cancer—is now available in Albany; Dean Berhaupt from Broadalbin became the first in the Capital Region to try the therapy as he battles multiple myeloma.
