- ➤ Albany Police are investigating two locations (Liebel Street between Grandview Terrace and Leonard Street, and Third Avenue between Sloan Street and Elizabeth Street) where officers searched a home on Third Avenue without making any arrests while traffic remains closed and residents are advised to use alternate routes. - ➤ University at Albany's Melinda Larsen and Yubing Xie were inducted into the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering College of Fellows in Arlington, Virginia earlier this week for their work in regenerative engineering and tissue repair research. - ➤ Nursing homes and hospitals are urging the governor to fix a funding gap that has left long-term care facilities without needed rate increases since 2007. Fort Hudson Health System said its 196-bed facility had 20 vacant beds and lost about $1.8 million a year—causing delays in patient placements and hospital care. WRGB
- ➤ Lobbying interests spent $377 million in 2024 to sway state and local officials, breaking records for a third straight year—health care groups like union 1199SEIU and the Alliance to Protect Home Care led spending that was up 4.5% from 2023. The ethics commission said Albany-based Brown & Weinraub topped lobbyist pay with $22.1 million, showing a rising trend in lobbying activity. Times Union

- ➤ Land clearing started this week at 65 Kenwood Ave—contractors are preparing the 90-acre former Kleinke farm for a residential project by Cardona Development Group.
