COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Washington Park held its annual Easter egg hunt on Saturday, Apr. 4 with over 60 volunteers from local schools and churches bringing free activities, music, and a food truck. The event wrapped up with a raffle drawing, strengthening local connections (fun for families).  WRGB

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation released recommendations to manage heavy visitor use in the Adirondack High Peaks and Catskills, noting congestion and trail wear. Public comments are accepted until June 1 (virtual hearings are scheduled for April 22 and 29).  WAMC

HEALTH NEWS

  • In March, St. Anne's Institute opened Beacon Crisis Residence in Albany to address youth mental health gaps, and Teens 2 Success coach Steve Simons shared resilience tips (aimed to prevent issues from escalating).  WRGB

SPORTS NEWS

  • UAlbany softball split its doubleheader at Bearcats Sports Complex on Saturday, with a 6–2 loss in Game 1 and a 5–2 win in Game 2— the team will face Siena in a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 8.  University at Albany
  • The UAlbany women's track and field team earned two first-place finishes and eight personal records at the UConn Dog Fight on Saturday, April 4 (Storrs). The Great Danes will compete at the RPI Under the Lights event April 10-11.  University at Albany
  • The UAlbany women's lacrosse team maintained a 4-0 record after a 14-9 win over UMBC at UMBC Stadium — clinching a spot in the America East Tournament. The team will host the Great Danes for Senior Day at Tom and Mary Casey Stadium on Saturday, Apr. 11 at 12:00 p.m.  University at Albany
  • The UAlbany men's lacrosse team defeated Bearcats 16-5 on Saturday, April 4 at Tom & Mary Casey Stadium as Silas Richmond and Ryan Doherty scored four goals. The team will host Greatful Danes Day, doubleheader with the women's squad and a pregame concert by The Wheel, next Saturday, April 11.  University at Albany
  • The UAlbany baseball team won 4-2 against UMass Lowell on Saturday at LeLacheur Park in Lowell (Mass) with Tre Mariano’s three-run home run and strong pitching from the team. The Great Danes will face LIU on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.  University at Albany
  • UAlbany has hired Kelly Morrone as the new head women’s basketball coach from Merrimack College, where she spent six seasons guiding a program transition; she will be formally introduced at a future press conference as she replaces Colleen Mullen.  WRGB
  • At a University of Florida invitational held Friday and Saturday in Gainesville, Amelia Benjamin won the high jump and Jacob Smith set a new 1500m record + UAlbany runners earned top finishes; the Great Danes will compete in the Capital Region at the RPI Under the Lights event on April 10-11.  University at Albany
  • UAlbany men’s track & field earned nine personal records at Saturday’s Dog Fight Challenge at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex in Storrs, Conn. Frankie Gonzalez set a shot put personal best and Maxim Kruk broke into the top 10 in the discus throw, boosting the team’s performance.  University at Albany
