- ➤ On Friday, Siena College Research Institute released a survey of 1096 residents in Albany, Rensselaer, Schenectady and Saratoga counties that showed only 25% feel the region is improving while 38% believe it is getting worse. The report also found that many residents rate local government and services like affordable housing and job opportunities as fair or poor. ABC NEWS 10
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ 45-year-old Charles Brennan of Mechanicville was sentenced to 97 months in prison for his role in a methamphetamine distribution conspiracy and firearm offenses after a four-day jury trial in September 2024 + his sentence includes a four-year term of supervised release. WRGB
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ WAMC Northeast Public Radio announced Friday morning that it will sell The Linda, its 23-year-old arts studio in a former bank building on Central Avenue and Quail Street as part of its plan to bring live events to many local venues. The station said the sale will turn a fixed space into a way to reach more communities + recent pilot events in the Hudson Valley sold out. Times Union

- ➤ State Senator Cordell Cleare introduced bill S7313 on Wednesday to require prosecutors to prove they looked for all evidence before trial and add a new rule to the Criminal Procedure Law based on People v. Bay during stalled budget talks. Critics including the Legal Aid Society said the bill may lead to wrongful convictions — a worry as Gov. Kathy Hochul pushes a plan to limit evidence to what is in hand — and more debate is expected. ABC NEWS 10
- ➤ Albany officials will add fluoride to the city’s drinking water by the end of this year—water commissioner Joe Coffey said the department follows science and not politics despite federal anti-fluoride efforts. A project bid to manage the process is set to be issued in May. Times Union
