CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 41-year-old Albany man (Bakeim McCall) was arrested Saturday at Waterworks Pub on Central Avenue (2:30 a.m.) after a fight in which he reportedly threatened another with a loaded .22 revolver and was found with ecstasy; he now faces charges for weapon offenses, menacing, and drug possession. - ➤ New York State Police identified four troopers involved in the Malta apartment shooting on April 10 when Brandon Moore (37) barricaded himself during a domestic dispute and was fatally shot with a CO2 powered BB pistol; all officers involved are on voluntary leave as the Attorney General’s office investigates the incident. - ➤ Opera Saratoga’s 2025 summer festival will take place in June at Universal Preservation Hall and will feature performances of Jacques Offenbach’s La Vie parisienne, She Loves Me, A Mass for Women in Bathrooms, and the immersive In a Grove experience—bringing a European flair to our local stage. - ➤ Gov. Hochul and the state Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence released reports showing current discovery laws harm domestic violence victims—resulting in many case dismissals—and she urged lawmakers to change the rules to better protect survivors. WRGB
- ➤ New York state spent $452.8 million on nearly 250,000 pieces of COVID medical equipment, but only a few items were used and hundreds of thousands still sit in warehouses, costing taxpayers millions. State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli urged the Department of Health to create a plan to maintain and use the equipment+improve oversight+ for future emergencies. ABC NEWS 10
- ➤ The Department of Environmental Conservation released a draft proposal for a cap-and-invest program that would sell permits for greenhouse gas emissions to fund cleaner energy and help lower bills, and it is accepting public comments until July. Virtual hearings are scheduled for June 18 at 1 p.m. & 6 p.m. while an in-person session will be held at the Albany office on June 4 at 1 p.m. ABC NEWS 10
- ➤ Watervliet residents must boil their water for the next two days after Sunday’s tests found high levels of harmful microbes during the disinfection process—city officials said the system is fixed and more updates will be shared when the water is safe. NewsChannel 13
- ➤ Drivers are urged to use caution on I-87 southbound Exit 7 in Colonie after the ramp was reduced to one lane for a bridge repair project until about September 1—officials warn of considerable delays. Motorists are advised to leave early or seek alternate routes as weather may affect the work schedule. ABC NEWS 10
