  • A Siena Poll released April 14, 2026 finds that New Yorkers are divided over artificial intelligence—43% say its disadvantages outweigh its advantages while 67% report using AI chatbots. The results also show younger residents use AI more, hinting at a developing digital divide.  WRGB

  • Last month in New Baltimore, a video showed 12-year-old Wyatt Bunce nearly getting hit by a car as he left his school bus, prompting local leaders and families to urge drivers to slow down and follow bus safety laws.  WRGB

  • Political Science Associate Professor Timothy Weaver says politicians can connect with Gen Z by addressing affordability concerns and engaging authentically on social platforms like TikTok and podcasts.   • Family Dentistry Group of New York hosted a career seminar at Hudson Valley Community College to train students in evaluating job offers (led by Dr. Gregory Dodd) as demand for dental hygienists grows.   • Stephen Gravereaux, a senior cybersecurity major at UAlbany, spent a year researching smartwatch vulnerabilities and will present his findings at Showcase 2026 on Thursday, April 30. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A UAlbany Atmospheric Sciences researcher co-authored an international study on contrail formation published April 14 in Nature— the research shows that lean-burn aircraft engines still create conditions for ice particles to form. Researchers combined aircraft data and advanced modeling to challenge ideas that reducing soot emissions will lessen contrail effects.  University at Albany

  • On Tuesday, advocates gathered outside a local beauty supply store to urge lawmakers to pass the Beauty Justice Act so the Department of Environmental Conservation can regulate harmful chemicals in personal care products (Clean and Healthy’s communications coordinator Jasmine Phillip said many fear everyday exposure).  WAMC

  • UAlbany won in walk-off fashion against CCSU on Tuesday at Varsity Field in Albany—key hits including an inside-the-park homer from Victor Mazzara helped secure the 7-6 victory before the team prepares for a four-game series against Siena starting Saturday, Apr. 18.  University at Albany
  • UAlbany goalkeeper Grace Cincebox was named the IWLCA National Defensive Player of the Week after making 15 saves in a 9-8 win on Apr. 11 at Casey Stadium. The Great Danes will face Vermont on Saturday, Apr. 18 at noon at Virtue Field in Burlington.  University at Albany
  • The UAlbany men's lacrosse team beat Siena 9-7 last Tuesday night at Tom and Mary Casey Stadium when both teams honored former player and coach Liam Gleason in the inaugural LarGer Than Life game. They will travel to Yale for their final non-conference matchup at 4:00 p.m.  University at Albany
  • Silas Richmond of UAlbany was drafted by the Philadelphia Waterdogs with the fifth overall pick, making him the latest Great Dane to turn professional—joining Jake Piseno and others after leading his team to two America East titles and NCAA Tournament wins.  University at Albany
  • Keegan Collin was named Field Athlete of the Week by America East Conference after recording a 59.46m hammer throw at the RPI Under the Lights meet on Saturday, April 11 & setting a new personal record.
