- ➤ On April 16th, 2025, the federal government terminated the F-1 visas of at least four international UAlbany students—two current students and two recent graduates—a university spokesperson said. - ➤ The new Albany 911 call center, which opened in March 2024, is operating with a 50% staff shortage as it manages high call volumes with dispatchers working up to 16-hour overtime shifts — the department is urgently seeking new applicants to fill these critical roles. The center, planned for 39 telecommunication specialists, is currently short by 20, putting extra strain on first responders. WRGB
- ➤ Albany County District Attorney Lee Kindlon focused on reducing gun and retail crimes in his first 100 days by creating new bureaus for restorative justice, street crimes, and financial crimes—bolstered by 19 new hires and 58 sentences for illegal gun possession.
