COMMUNITY NEWS

  • For two months, 82-year-old Leota Geerholt at Kindle trailer park in Brunswick has been without power, which has left her without heat+water and forced limited motel stays as repairs remain delayed. National Grid said they cannot restore service until the property owner fixes the corroded meter box.  WRGB
  • The 45th Annual 'Take Back the Night' rally will occur on Thursday, Apr. 23 at Washington Park Lakehouse in Albany. The event will start with a pre-rally featuring music, food trucks plus community tabling, and will include survivor speak out, a march and a candlelight vigil.  WAMC

  • New York’s legal cannabis market has surpassed $3 billion in sales with over 630 licensed dispensaries operating statewide; state officials continue shutting down more than 600 illegal shops and allocate revenue (40% for education, 40% for community investment, 20% for public health).  NewsChannel 13

  • Franciscan priest Br. Jacek Orzechowski visited the State Capitol on April 20 to share concerns with lawmakers about Middle East wars and later spoke with Siena students to encourage them to stay informed about conflicts (including Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran).  WAMC

HEALTH NEWS

  • Surveillance footage and inspection records have raised concerns about care at Eddy Village Green in Cohoes, with families reporting incidents of neglect and safety lapses. The facility revised visitation rules + terminated staff after these events, though some families remain worried.  WRGB
  • On Monday, Apr. 20, Medical Monday featured audiologist Dr. Maggie McCarthy of Albany ENT and Allergy Services as host Ray Graf led a session on hearing loss, tinnitus and preventative care. Listeners were invited to call 800-348-2551 with their questions.  WAMC
