  • UAlbany researchers are launching a Chip Forensics Institute to detect hidden hardware trojans that may threaten key systems like the electric grid + they will use AI methods and comparisons of safe and corrupted chip designs to secure trusted supply chains.  University at Albany

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • NYSERDA is launching a new land based renewable energy program to boost wind, solar & hydroelectric projects statewide. The program comes after rising utility costs and expiring federal tax credits while the state works to meet its green energy goals.  WRGB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Albany International Airport has opened a new 15,000 sqft departure hall as part of a $100 million refurbishment designed to ease congestion and modernize traveler experience. The facility features four escalators that provide direct access to TSA and will soon link to the North Garage.  WRGB
  • Former CDTA CEO Carm Basile died April 23 after surgery complications. He worked at the agency for 43 years and led it from 2009 until retirement in 2024, and local officials praised his lasting impact on public transportation.  NewsChannel 13
  • City leaders met at the Greenhouse Social Club (Thursday night) to plan improvements for Albany’s nightlife. They will seek community input on streamlining permits, transit options and enhanced security to boost economic growth.  WRGB

  • Jaycee Barry, a Capital Region occupational therapist, left traditional healthcare for a home-based practice to offer one-on-one care with free support groups.   • On Friday, Sierra Anderson broke her own freshman record in the hammer throw with a 54.36m throw at Ned Harkness Field & Track in Troy; UAlbany athletes also set 19 personal bests and won seven events. Her new mark moves her to eighth all-time in the program.  University at Albany
  • UAlbany baseball won game one of its three-game series against NJIT on Friday afternoon at Varsity Field—7-5. The team will meet NJIT again tomorrow at 1:00 p.m.  University at Albany
