COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The 18th Annual Neighborhood Food and Fund Drive at the Regional Food Bank in Albany collected thousands of meals and hygiene products, with 12,500 bags delivered to help provide 30,000 meals from about 36,000 pounds of food; volunteers then sorted the donations to support those in need.  WRGB
  • The Friends of the Library and Encore Books volunteers announced that the FOL bookstore will open on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. starting May 6, accepting donations of gently used books, media and puzzles while operating on volunteer staffing and weather conditions. The library also hosts events — a Magic the Gathering game for grade 5 and up on May 4 at 1 p.m., an Art of the Repurposed meet at noon and a history walk on May 3 at 9:30 a.m., plus a Craft & Chat on April 30 at 10:30 a.m. or 6 p.m. — that offer community members diverse opportunities to connect.  Spotlight News

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire broke out at 188 Colonie Street a little after 1 a.m. Saturday, leaving 11 people homeless as firefighters brought the blaze under control by 2:10 a.m. (Investigators are looking into the cause).  NewsChannel 13

CRIME NEWS

  • A video from Friday night shows an Albany officer appearing to point a Taser at a pedestrian on North Pearl Street — the device had no cartridge and an official review was launched amid a nearby fight.  Times Union
  • Bethlehem police responded on April 11 at Walmart when two Albany suspects, Jason Bishop and Sarabell Bovee, stole a TV and other merchandise and left in a blue Honda Civic—Bishop, who did not have a valid license and had been banned from the store, was charged with burglary and other crimes while Bovee was charged with petit larceny—and later officers stopped a car on Route 9W and arrested Adnan Azad for driving with a suspended registration and an outstanding warrant.  Spotlight News
  • A 52-year-old man left Guilderland Town Court on April 10 and his car broke down on Kenwood Avenue — Bethlehem police discovered him with hidden cases of beer, a 0.28 percent BAC, and no valid license, and he was charged with aggravated DWI, DWI, and driving without a license, receiving an appearance ticket for Bethlehem Town Court on April 23.  Spotlight News
