COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Albany community members, local leaders and first responders climbed 42 flights at the Corning Tower in a Big Climb event to raise funds for blood cancer research and support services—an effort driven by the fact that someone loses their battle with the disease every nine minutes. WRGB
- ➤ The Albany community has rallied around Tia Szcepanski (a pediatric nurse at Albany Medical Center and traveling nurse to Syracuse) who is battling severe aplastic anemia. Supporters have donated through her GoFundMe page and sent prayers to help her fight the life-threatening blood disorder. WRGB
- ➤ Troy Farmers Market returned for its spring outdoor season and runs every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Pets may join if weather allows.) Local vendors including Mariahide owner Mariah Singleton display handmade goods to celebrate local artisans (showing strong community spirit). WRGB

- ➤ WAMC is highlighting local NPR Tiny Desk Contest hopefuls – Tori Christie of toriendofstory from Albany, an indie/R&B pop band, and Luke Wygodny of The Heartstrings Project from Cold Spring. The contest winner will be announced on May 13th. WAMC

- ➤ Governor Kathy Hochul announced that 15 State landmarks will be illuminated red this evening to honor Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters — the event will remember fallen heroes, including Chief Thomas Wutz, as part of National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend. WRGB
- ➤ New York state lawmakers passed a budget extender through Tuesday as negotiations continue over the $254 billion state budget after Governor Kathy Hochul announced plans on Monday — some budget decisions remain pending. WAMC
