COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Sunday, May 4th, families in Albany attended a 'Mindful Strides' walk at Crossgates Mall that promoted mental health and autism inclusion on a rainy day — the Greater Hudson Region Autism Society organized the event and offered raffle passports along with resource tables to support community wellness.  WRGB
  • One Warm Coat has called on residents to donate gently used coats to local drop-off spots—the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants Albany Field Office, Women of Worth in Schenectady, and Together for Youth in Hudson—to help people in need and reduce landfill waste. For 33 years, the program has kept over one million pounds of textiles out of landfills.  WRGB

  • Troy Police are investigating shots fired near 7th Ave and Glen Ave where a man was struck in the upper arm + he was treated on scene and taken to a local hospital while the suspect fled before officers arrived.  NewsChannel 13

CULTURE NEWS

  • The New York State Museum is updating its exhibits to show current research on extinct species and to properly honor indigenous histories. Museum staff are working with local communities to review displays and improve signage for a living, evolving museum experience.  WRGB
  • Fort Ticonderoga will host 'No Quarter!'—a weekend of live reenactments and immersive exhibits to mark the 250th anniversary of its 1775 capture by American forces, with events scheduled from May 9 through May 11. Town officials expect the historic celebration to boost local tourism and support America250 festivities.  Times Union

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Siena College hosted middle school students on Saturday for the Great Siena Expedition—an event where kids examined reptiles, investigated a mock crime scene, and learned how to heal a broken heart through hands-on science activities that were free and open to the public.  NewsChannel 13

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Two Explosive Detection Canine teams from the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office finished a week-long training at the New York State Preparedness Training Center to practice security for mass gatherings and aviation and marine operations. The teams, including TJ and Flash with their handlers, passed National Odor Recognition Testing — a blind test with 30 odor canisters — and will share the techniques with other local agencies.  WRGB
