ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Monday, a fire broke out at the Jericho Drive-in in Glenmont with no injuries and an investigation underway; the drive-in will open as usual on Tuesday at 1 p.m.  NewsChannel 13

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Nothing Bundt Cakes is offering seasonal flavors and gift items for Mother’s Day and spring at local stores. The bakery has reintroduced its Strawberry Cheesecake Swirl flavor, available from April 13 through May 31 via online, mobile or in-person orders.  NewsChannel 13

CULTURE NEWS

  • Delmar mother Meaghan Baxter wrote a children’s book (My Mama Moves Different) inspired by her mom’s battle with MS to help families see love in new ways. She will host the book launch on June 7 at the Sheehy Palmer VFW in Albany.  NewsChannel 13

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UAlbany announced that Mayor Dorcey Applyrs (an alum) will speak at the undergraduate ceremony in the morning while Nobel Prize winner Dr. Joachim Frank (a former professor) will address the graduate ceremony in the afternoon on May 16 on campus.  WRGB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Albany officials + venue owners are working to revive nightlife by easing licensing restrictions; a new nightlife council will release a full report on July 1 to help boost late-night dining and live entertainment downtown.  WAMC

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Monday, May 4, St. Peter’s Orthopedics featured orthopedic surgeon Dr. Kyle Angicola-Richardson, hosted by Ray Graf. He specializes in hand and upper limb care and completed his residency at Albany Medical Center (earning his degree from SUNY Upstate in Syracuse).  WAMC

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The City of Cohoes finalized the $125,000 sale of the Saratoga Sites apartment complex to local developer Byron Diaz last week — the property will be demolished for commercial warehouse plans near the closed Norlite incinerator. The sale is part of a larger redevelopment effort following a 2017 fire.  WAMC

SPORTS NEWS

  • UAlbany lacrosse teams swept the America East championships with a 14 to 11 win for the men at Casey Stadium and a 13 to 11 win for the women over Vermont on Sunday; they now head into NCAA tournaments with women playing Johns Hopkins Friday and men facing North Carolina Saturday at noon.  University at Albany
