BUSINESS NEWS

  • Rite Aid filed for bankruptcy on May 5 and now will close its 178 New York pharmacies in the coming months—some locations will be taken over by new owners as part of the proceedings.  WRGB

CRIME NEWS

  • A 41-year-old Albany man, Bakeim McCall, was indicted after he reportedly brandished a loaded gun at Waterworks Pub on April 12 at about 2:30 a.m.—he faces charges of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and Menacing in the Second Degree and could face up 15 years in prison if convicted.  WRGB
  • The US Department of Justice announced on May 7 that eight people were arrested in the Northern District for allegedly producing, distributing or possessing child sex abuse materials during Operation Restore Justice — a five-day nationwide crackdown that rescued 115 children.  ABC NEWS 10

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mayor Carmella Mantello announced that Troy will break ground on a new Olympic-grade pool complex at Knickerbacker Park in the coming weeks and officials expect it to open to the public in summer 2026 — delays came after a required environmental assessment was refiled and costs increased.  Times Union

HEALTH NEWS

  • A grieving mother is seeking answers after her one-month-old daughter died at Albany Medical Center last week following a second hospital admission for cough and congestion—she reviewed records that showed unexpected bacterial infections and is now calling for accountability from the hospital.  WRGB

  • Tomorrow, Friday Night Hoop will take place at KIPP Tech Valley Middle School in Albany as young athletes compete in four games starting at 6:00 p.m. The event at 321 Northern Blvd charges a $5 cover fee — showcasing top youth basketball talent and fostering local community spirit.  WRGB
