CRIME NEWS

  • Albany police investigated a shooting early Sunday morning on Jennings Drive—where a 42-year-old woman sustained shrapnel wounds to her arm when shots were fired from outside her home—and the investigation remains active.  WRGB
  • The Albany Police Department investigated two alleged shots fired incidents that took place early Sunday morning near Jennings Drive and Grand Street—officers found a 42-year-old woman injured by shrapnel from gunfire at one location and evidence of gunfire with no injuries at the other.  ABC NEWS 10
  • North Greenbush police arrested business owner Christopher Regan on Tuesday for multiple drug charges after a search warrant on April 22 found roughly 1 gram of cocaine, 1 gram of fentanyl and 11 grams of psilocybin mushrooms at his home + law enforcement agencies from Troy and the state provided support during the investigation.  WRGB
  • At 3:50 a.m. on Sunday, police responded to reports of shots fired near Grand Street and Madison Avenue — they found evidence of gunfire, no injuries were reported, and the investigation is ongoing.  WRGB

CULTURE NEWS

  • Federal funding was terminated on May 2 for the Albany Symphony’s American Music Festival and the Empire State Youth Orchestra’s program as NEA priorities shifted, leaving many planned arts events at risk. Despite the $35,000 setback, the Symphony will hold its festival June 4—8 and local arts groups have until Friday to appeal the decision and adjust their programs.  Times Union
  • Next Sunday, the Capital District Reptile Expo will be held from 10 am to 4 pm at the Albany Capital Center—an event where reptile enthusiasts will view a variety of snakes, lizards, geckos, and alligators while learning about reptile care.  WRGB

  • The state comptroller’s office faces an 80,000-case backlog in retirement processing due to delays from a decade-old $588 million software project—employees and retirees report wait times that sometimes span years and add financial stress. The office handles nearly twice the retirement filings it finalizes each month as staffing shortages and rising retirement numbers complicate the process.  Times Union
