- ➤ A Schenectady woman was arrested for stealing over $50,000 from a business in Duanesburg where she worked, New York State Police said Monday. The Daily Gazette
- ➤ A Malta man named Jason Guerin pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular assault and was sentenced at 2 p.m. Monday—he crashed near Exit 6 on the Northway last November when drugs impaired his driving, injuring a state trooper and a tow truck driver who remain in recovery. WRGB
- ➤ Troy man Asjmere Powell was arrested Friday during a search at 679 4th Avenue in Troy—deputies recovered drugs, money, and a loaded gun amid an investigation into the sale of heroin laced with fentanyl, and he was charged with multiple felony and misdemeanor counts and held without bail at Rensselaer County Jail. - ➤ An Albany man, Russell Gibson, 30, was indicted when police executed a search warrant at his First Street home and found a ghost gun — a 9mm weapon loaded with 22 rounds — along with crack cocaine, and he pleaded not guilty while facing charges that could lead to up to 15 years in prison. - ➤ On May 8, Mildred Elley held a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Amsterdam to celebrate National Student Nurse Day and launch new Licensed Practical Nursing and Clinical Medical Assistant programs. The programs, which begin in Amsterdam and finish in Albany, aim to ease the national nursing shortage—providing locals a new path in healthcare careers. WRGB
- ➤ New York State has tweaked its school aid formula and boosted funding for K–12 public schools with a record $37.6 billion budget in fiscal year 2025—about $14,000 per student and a 2% minimum increase in aid for every district. The budget raises the state-share cap to 93, expands Universal Free School Meals, and adjusts funding factors to better support high-need students. ABC NEWS 10
