  • The Pine Hills Neighborhood Association calls for a plan for roughly 50 former Saint Rose campus homes in Albany to ensure community revitalization and affordable, mixed-use projects before sale. County officials say more details + plans will be announced soon.  WAMC
  • Iteashia Turner was named Best Capital Region Mom after her daughter Amadi Turner-Tarver nominated her on Sunday, May 10 in Albany. They discussed their strong bond and the reasons behind the nomination during a recent visit to WAMC.  WAMC

CULTURE NEWS

  • New York state opened the canal lock at Waterford on May 15 at 8 a.m. to let boaters start the season as the Albany Symphony launched its Water Music NY: More Voices Festival at Lock 2 near the Visitor Center, playing hour-long sets timed with boat traffic + inviting tunes.  WRGB

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, father and son David Davis Jr (45) and David Davis III (21) graduate from Russell Sage College with psychology degrees and plan to open a joint counseling practice to support local mental health needs. The commencement marks a milestone in their shared family journey.  WAMC
  • Professor John Thickstun from Cornell University talked about growing fears around AI & how clear rules for technology and data centers could shape future decisions. He explained that experts see a strong U.S. stance as key to fair global competition.  WRGB

  • Governor Kathy Hochul signed two bills that let pharmacists vaccinate children ages 2 to 18 and force insurers to cover state-recommended vaccines, a move designed to improve vaccine access for all residents.  WRGB

  • Residents in Rensselaer have long raised health concerns about exposure from the Dunn landfill, so a local environmental coalition wrote to Health Commissioner Dr. James MacDonald asking for more rigorous air testing + review of health records, according to a recent letter.  WRGB
