CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Rensselaer County authorities sentenced 32-year-old Zachary Cota, a former resident of Castleton-on-Hudson, to 292 months (over 24 years) in prison for using SnapChat to solicit and coerce children into sending explicit images and for attempting to delete evidence during a probation officer’s phone inspection. - ➤ Brittany Hawkins, 35, pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter for intentionally running over Daquan Phillips near Upper Sky Line Apartments on October 31, 2024 + she will be sentenced on July 16 to 25 years in state prison followed by five years of post-release supervision. WRGB

- ➤ Doors opened at 6 p.m. Friday at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church (a century-old landmark) for the 53rd annual Greek Festival. Today the event offers homemade dishes such as roasted lamb leg, gyro, chicken souvlaki, and Spanakopita and will run from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. with Sunday's festivities set for 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. (tickets cost $5 per day with free entry for children under 12). - ➤ The state's Office of Children and Family Services suspended the license of Home Away from Home Childcare in East Greenbush—effective Friday, May 16—after it did not report a serious incident, a child's death, and signs of abuse, and police have not confirmed if this is linked to a reported 1-year-old death at a local daycare.
