  • Communities across the Capital Region are commemorating Memorial Day with parades, ceremonies, and markets. Albany’s parade kicks off Monday, May 25 at 9:30 a.m., while events in Cobleskill, Halfmoon, Hillsdale, Lake George, South Glens Falls, and Troy are also scheduled, with some happening today.  WRGB
  • National EMS Appreciation Week is observed this week in East Greenbush to honor EMTs and paramedics who provide lifesaving care (the W.F. Bruen Rescue Squad is recruiting new members).  WRGB

  • IBM said it will match a $1 billion investment by GlobalFoundries to create a new entity that will manage a secure 300mm quantum water fab at Albany NanoTech + the overall $1.375B project aims to bolster the region’s tech industry.  The Daily Gazette

  • College officials reported rising ghost student scams using stolen identities to enroll in classes and collect federal financial aid, and they advised anyone receiving unexpected financial aid notices to report them immediately.  NewsChannel 13

  • Musicians of Ma'alwyck present Under Four Flags, a World War I tribute with a screening of a 1918 silent film and chamber music scored by Max Caplan starting May 26 (in the region); the program opens with a piece by Mihail Jora and Samuel Gardner’s piano quintet honoring fallen soldiers.  WAMC

  • WAMC’s David Guistina interviewed David Albert (NYSSBA's chief communications officer) about this week’s school budget votes, the funding formula, and issues impacting learning; the conversation aired yesterday at 3 p.m.  WAMC
  • UAlbany’s Massry School of Business is launching a co-op program that places students — including sophomores, juniors, seniors — in full-time, paid roles in the Capital Region. Participants work 35 to 40 hours weekly and earn at least $21 hourly for 4 to 5 months; partners include Albany Medical Center.  University at Albany

  • Residents in Schuyler Heights voiced concerns after their fire company closed over the weekend and Colonie fire officials now cover calls in the area. Michael Romano said he hopes a local service may return in the future.  NewsChannel 13

HEALTH NEWS

  • Gov. Hochul announced that overdose deaths fell by 44.9% since 2022, saving over 5,000 lives statewide as the state expanded life-saving harm-reduction and treatment services. Officials stressed further investment to tackle opioid and polysubstance threats.  WRGB

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Guild Ventures submitted a filing with the New York Independent System Operator to request 180MW for a planned data center at Kenwood Commons. The development aims to blend housing, retail, industrial and tech uses to regenerate the vacant 76-acre site while using zero-emission energy.  WRGB
