  • Jacob and Alejandro's coffee shop has moved to a larger location at 9 First Street in Troy today — the new space nearly triples its capacity and will offer expanded coffee options along with a curated wine bar and mixology program.  NewsChannel 13

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Asian Arts New York Eastern Music Ensemble will perform at Empire State Plaza today as part of the AANHPI Art and Cultural Festival. The group blends Asian folk music with Western classical styles and features instruments like the xiao and pipa.  WAMC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UAlbany’s College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering held a free two-week hands-on program for college students, recent graduates and career seekers in energy storage and clean energy from May 11 to May 22 at the NY Creates Albany NanoTech Complex and its Uptown campus labs.  University at Albany
  • The New York State Museum opened its interactive Kids Zone today to spark learning with the 'Expedition Dinosaur: Rise of the Mammals' exhibit plus rotating activities for young visitors as part of Governor Hochul’s $400 million initiative to refresh downtown cultural hubs.  WRGB
  • Governor Hochul announced that applications for the Excelsior Scholarship for eligible full-time students starting the 2026-27 academic year are now open — students may attend SUNY, CUNY or participating private colleges tuition-free, with applications due by Aug. 31.  WRGB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A fire broke out Sunday at Menands' fire department, causing extensive damage but no serious injuries. Village Mayor Brian Marsh said the department will use the Schuyler Heights station and help from nearby districts as attorneys work on a long-term plan for repairs.  WRGB

HEALTH NEWS

  • On May 26, physical therapist Matthew Goodemote answered viewers' questions on a WAMC show hosted by Ray Graf. He brought 29 years of clinical experience in spine care and sports rehabilitation (focusing on injury prevention) to the discussion.  WAMC

  • Nine UAlbany student-athletes are set to compete in the NCAA East Prelims from today to Saturday at the UK Outdoor Track and Field Complex in Lexington, Ky - the team includes established competitors like Amelia Benjamin and Lalenii Grant.  University at Albany
  • University at Albany Deputy Athletic Director Vic Cegles was named to the Silver Waves Media Top 100 Rising Athletic Directors list Tuesday morning — the honor recognizes his role in boosting external operations and revenue. He joined the athletics team in 2016 and became deputy in 2019.  University at Albany
