ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A car crash on Route 7 in Hoosick around 11 a.m. on June 4 led to the closure of all lanes near Route 22—injuries were reported in the incident.  ABC NEWS 10

BUSINESS NEWS

  • GlobalFoundries announced that it will spend an extra $3 billion at its plants in Malta and Essex Junction to boost its AI chipmaking — raising its total planned spend to $16 billion under federal programs. The move is expected to grow the local semiconductor industry and strengthen American chip production.  Times Union

CRIME NEWS

  • The Rensselaer County Sheriff's Office said it remains committed to solving the death of Megan Dyer-Maclean after she was found with dangerous levels of strychnine near an old railroad bed in Johnsonville seven years ago (officials ask anyone with information to call 518 270-0128).  NewsChannel 13
  • Daquan Arrington, who pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in the 2024 killing of Javon Ward, was sentenced to 25 years in prison and ordered to serve 5 years of post-release supervision nearly two months after his lawyer’s outburst about gun violence delayed his sentencing.  Times Union
  • An 18-year-old man is accused of beating a 27-week pregnant woman in his Orange Street apartment on May 15 into May 16 with a hammer, causing her to lose her unborn baby and require treatment at Albany Medical Center—he pleaded not guilty at Albany County Court and faces up to 25 years in jail.  NewsChannel 13

CULTURE NEWS

  • State and local officials along with cultural leaders gathered near the Waterford lock to announce plans to celebrate the Erie Canal’s 200-year history + honor the diverse contributions of New York’s communities. The festival series includes free daylong concerts by the Albany Symphony, newly commissioned works by five composers, local food vendors + family activities, and will take place across canal communities during the summer.  Spotlight News
