  • On June 10, the Colonie Planning Board approved plans for a Tesla dealership that sparked protests by more than 100 people. The project will replace a former Maywood School with a 30000 square foot showroom that offers car sales and electric vehicle maintenance — its design blends with the neighborhood — and it meets the state cap for Tesla dealerships.  Times Union

CRIME NEWS

  • Kimberly Humphrey pleaded guilty to wire fraud and health care fraud in U.S. District Court in Albany Tuesday as part of a federal probe into the collapse of Prime Capital Ventures—she is the second associate to admit guilt while former boss Kris Roglieri faces trial in January on related charges.  Times Union

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The New York State Inspector General is moderating a panel today at the Rockefeller Institute of Government in Albany that reviews the investigation and manhunt following the infamous Dannemora prison escape—marking the 10th anniversary of the breakout. The panel will discuss a 150-page report that detailed security oversights during the escape of convicted killers Richard Matt and David Sweat.  WRGB

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Robert Holub has joined his father at Neurological Associates of Albany to run clinical trials for new Alzheimer’s drugs. The practice tests a new blood test (approved by the FDA) and plans studies (to slow disease progression) as part of its early diagnosis efforts.  Times Union
  • Heavy rains earlier this spring prolonged the allergy season upstate by boosting tree and grass pollen levels — experts explained that wet weather and climate change led to higher pollen counts triggering itchy eyes and nasal drip. Doctors noted that while tree pollen is now declining, many still face symptoms from rising grass pollen.  Times Union
  • The New York State Department of Health fined Albany Medical Center $375,000 for over 500 staffing violations that broke state law. The fine includes $125,000 suspended—if the hospital complies with its corrective plan to address understaffing.  WRGB

  • LPGA champion Dottie Pepper’s book Letters to a Future Champion recalls playing in the Gazette Women’s Amateur Championship in Schenectady where she lost twice to Albany’s Alice Baker before winning on her third try in 1983—stories that show how the tournament built a champion’s spirit—while also honoring Baker as a valued local competitor and businesswoman.  Times Union
