- ➤ Saturday afternoon, the Northeastern Association of the Blind at Albany and the Albany PAL hosted a beep ball game at the PAL baseball fields on Krank Street so that volunteer kids could play blindfolded alongside youths from the NABA Youth Program. - ➤ Several people were seriously injured in a motorcycle crash in Gilboa on June 21st, with one person airlifted and another taken to Albany Medical Center — State Route 990V is closed between Wyckoff and Prattsville roads until further notice. ABC NEWS 10
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ An Albany man was indicted on charges including assault and kidnapping after he allegedly beat a pregnant woman in her Orange Street apartment on May 15—May 16, causing her to lose her unborn child, and he pleaded not guilty when he was arraigned on June 4. Spotlight News
- ➤ On June 7, Bethlehem police stopped a vehicle on Elm Avenue near the Town Park at 10:14 a.m. and found driver Joseph Bronson of Delmar had 11 active suspensions on his license and an outstanding warrant from Catskill—he was taken into custody and charged with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation and operating with a suspended registration. - ➤ Bargain Grocery in Troy asked for a 3-by-5-foot unlit sign over its overflow parking lot to guide customers, but a zoning board — largely appointed by Mayor Carmella Mantello — questioned the sign’s design and denied the request. Developer Kevin Bette said the refusal is one of many roadblocks he has faced while working to improve the riverfront neighborhood. Times Union
- ➤ Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan announced that the city will extend park splash pad hours until further notice—seven local libraries will serve as cooling centers as temperatures are expected to hit the upper 90s next week.
