COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Make-A-Wish hosted a Walk for Wishes fundraiser Sunday at Congress Park in Saratoga Springs. About 200 people attended—many were Make-A-Wish families—and the event raised funds to grant 120 life-changing wishes to children with critical illnesses.  WRGB

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Pine Hills Elementary in Albany announced it will conduct a required emergency drill this week — the drill will teach proper emergency procedures to students and staff.  WRGB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Albany County is set to sign an agreement with the Albany Convention Center Authority to expand Albany Capital Center and boost downtown funding. The deal will use $38 million in bonds and fee payments from hotel tax receipts — a plan designed to spur future economic development in Albany.  Times Union

HEALTH NEWS

  • Albany Medical Center has been linked to at least seven cases in recent years where surgical objects were left in patients during operations—data shows it ranks among New York hospitals with the worst rates for Medicare patients. Families have filed lawsuits after extra surgeries and complications as the hospital works to improve patient safety.  Times Union
  • A family in Ballston Spa held a fundraiser on Sunday at Speckled Pig Brewery to raise awareness for CDKL5 Deficiency Disorder and raised about $6,500 for monthly hospital trips and research. The event took place during CDKL5 Deficiency Disorder Awareness Month—helping the community learn about the rare condition that affects one in 60,000 births.  ABC NEWS 10
