CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Albany police indicted Malachi Davis, 20, for allegedly shooting a man at Café Hollywood in November 2024+ he faces charges of second-degree attempted murder+ first-degree assault+ and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. ABC NEWS 10
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Election officials said early voting in Albany’s competitive mayoral primary reached 3,178 in-person votes and 1,226 absentee votes (a total well above last year’s) as strong interest was shown by local voters. They added that plans are in place to help voters if heat causes a power loss (polling sites will receive instructions in such cases). WAMC
- ➤ Albany County announced Monday it will start a pilot street psychiatry program to help homeless residents with mental health issues by giving on-the-street prescriptions and checking housing needs— a six-person team will work in public places using part of a $250,000 police budget while the final budget is set. The program builds on existing county and city behavioral health resources to better reach those who often do not get the care they need. Times Union
- ➤ In Tuesday’s primaries in New York state, voters ended 10 days of early voting that decided several important local races from New York City to Albany—candidates in key contests for mayor and citywide auditor positions faced off. In Albany, voters chose among local figures like Common Council President Corey Ellis while other cities also saw high-profile contests in races that will shape future leadership. WAMC
