- ➤ New York Attorney General Letitia James released security camera footage as part of her investigation into the death of John Bonds, who died on June 2 following a May 27 motor vehicle crash involving an off-duty Colonie officer — officials say the footage will help clarify the circumstances of the fatal incident. - ➤ Police said that during a group fight on Tuesday night near the basketball courts on Eagle Street and Warren Street, a 17-year-old (alleged robbery victim) slashed his attacker in self-defense, leading to three hospital visits while the accused faces robbery charges and is set for arraignment on Wednesday. - ➤ Excelsior University honored Lt. Gen. Arthur J. Gregg by renaming its Albany headquarters the Arthur J. Gregg University Center + posthumously awarding him the University President’s Medal during a ceremony on Jul 9. - ➤ The Supreme Court upheld the Advance Albany County Alliance’s decision to demolish the Central Warehouse by dismissing the petitioner's arguments as without merit. CEO Kevin O’Connor said the ruling confirms the proper process was followed and will move the project ahead — a step aimed at boosting economic revitalization and public safety in Albany County. WRGB
- ➤ Albany lawmakers introduced two bills today to restrict flare gun misuse after violent incidents including a house fire and a shooting over the Fourth of July weekend—one bill bans sales to those under 21 with strict penalties for offenders while the other treats flare guns as weapons when used unlawfully. - ➤ The state comptroller’s audit found that the Health Department delayed inspections at many adult care facilities and did not follow up on violations—21 out of 30 reviews were submitted late and some complaints were not investigated. Marissa Crary said the agency made progress returning to normal timelines after the pandemic. Times Union
- ➤ Officials investigating corruption in Albany are reviewing records as claims emerged that some city supervisors pressured workers to exchange sex, drugs and alcohol for no-show overtime — a practice linked to a hostile work environment. The Ethics and Workforce Culture Ad-Hoc Committee requested documents on July 2 from city workers and their supervisors to check the claims — and will conclude the investigation by year’s end. WRGB
