CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Yvette M. Giovanni, (57), has been charged with criminal mischief and aggravated cruelty to animals after French Bulldog Gus died from heat exposure at A Time Four Paws in Halfmoon and remains in Saratoga County Jail as the investigation continues. WRGB
- ➤ Nearly one week after a flare gun caused a fire on July 4 at 333 Madison Ave, crews nearly demolished the building on Thursday as resident Niki Verma lost her home and memories—police arrested two people and crews will finish work on the last floor in the next week or two. ABC NEWS 10
- ➤ Paul Bilow, a 36-year-old from Catskill, was arrested on Monday on charges of second- and third-degree burglary, grand larceny, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and criminal mischief after police reported he stole tools and a trailer on County Route 111 in Alcove—he was processed in Coeymans Town Court and remanded to Albany County Jail on $20,000 bail. - ➤ A judge ruled that 74-year-old Tanja Morse from Westerlo, accused of neglecting 22 dogs and 15 horses, can keep her current animals—a turkey, small dog, 20 doves and three chickens—but must not get any new ones. Morse pleaded not guilty to over 40 counts of animal abuse and will appear in court on July 23 at 6 p.m.—the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society now cares for the other animals. NewsChannel 13
- ➤ State Police say a 17-year-old in Halfmoon is facing terrorism and weapons charges after allegedly making violent online threats and keeping bomb-making materials at home; officers searched the home on June 17, 2020 and filed additional charges on July 3, 2020—officials say the investigation is ongoing. - ➤ Playhouse Stage Company is presenting Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! in Washington Park until July 26 with free amphitheater seating available, and the show will move to Tawasentha Park from July 31 to August 2. The production—its first at Park Playhouse since 2001 and a milestone in Albany arts funding—brings a fresh energy to the classic musical. Spotlight News

- ➤ The New York State Supreme Court ruled for the Advance Albany County Alliance, letting Gramercy Group + LiRo-Hill tear down the old Central Warehouse after Jackson Demolition Services' low bid was rejected. County Executive Dan McCoy said the decision will help the county explore plans to open Lock 1 of the Erie Canal + build mixed-use developments near the riverfront. WAMC
- ➤ After shootings during July 4th celebrations disrupted events, Mayor Kathy Sheehan said Albany did not receive enough Raise the Age funding from the county for youth support programs. Advocates argue that only 39 percent of the state’s $1.71 billion appropriation since 2019 has been claimed and call for funds to go directly to community-based programs to help prevent youth crime.
