- ➤ Victory Church held its annual Safe Summer initiative at Livingston Park—Pastor Charlie Muller handed out tickets for bikes and Nike sneakers to promote community engagement and reduce gun violence. The church will also hold a youth-centered gun buyback later this summer that offers sneakers for each handgun turned in by a teenager. ABC NEWS 10

CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Albany Police are investigating an alleged shooting incident on the 100 block of Sherman Street that occurred early Sunday morning when officers responded at about 5:30 a.m. and found a 30-year-old woman with a gunshot wound inside her car who was treated on scene and taken to Albany Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries — the investigation is ongoing. - ➤ Albany police arrested a 21-year-old and three teens on July 5th for grand larceny and charges including criminal possession of stolen property, resisting arrest, and obstructing governmental administration; Logan Tropolosky will appear in Albany City Court on July 23rd. WRGB
- ➤ Troy Police are investigating after officers found several dogs in foul conditions at a home on 105th Street early Saturday—one dog was dead, others were in poor health, no one was present at the home, and the animals were taken to a local animal hospital. ABC NEWS 10

- ➤ New York public schools will enforce a bell-to-bell cellphone ban next school year to help improve academic performance after local districts already reported better classroom focus. Teachers said classrooms had deeper discussions—fewer interruptions from cellphones—when they removed the devices during class. Times Union

- ➤ A report from Leapfrog shows that 28.3% of low-risk mothers in New York have cesarean births— the second highest rate in the nation— and the state Department of Health said nearly one in three women gives birth this way, spurring programs to lower the rate. Times Union
- ➤ ER visits for tick bites are rising this summer as CDC data shows numbers nearly as high as in 2017 — with the Northeast and New York seeing more cases among young children and older adults. Health experts warn residents to use proper clothing and repellents to avoid tick bites — a measure to help reduce the risk of Lyme disease. ABC NEWS 10
