- ➤ A motorcyclist from Schenectady died in a head-on crash on Route 9W in Glenmont Monday at about 5:01 p.m. when a 2003 Mercury Mountaineer driven by Jacob M. Snide crossed the center line+ local police continue to investigate if impairment played a role. Spotlight News

- ➤ Watervliet Police arrested two teenaged boys for shooting incidents on June 24 and June 28; a 15-year-old, who was injured during the later incident, was charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon + Reckless Endangerment while a 16-year-old received a felony charge for Tampering with Evidence, and both were released with appearance tickets to Albany County Probation. - ➤ A Troy woman admitted she skipped her anti-seizure medication and caused a deadly crash on Aug. 19 near 1463 River Road in Selkirk that killed Colleen Selkirk—she pleaded guilty in Albany County Court on Tuesday and faces 1 to 3 years in prison when sentenced on Sept. 23. NewsChannel 13

- ➤ Northshire Bookstore closed after a July 4 water leak damaged its Broadway space and moved its upcoming July author events to Saratoga Springs Public Library — the library will host events at 6 p.m. Thursday, 2 p.m. Saturday, 6 p.m. on July 23 and 6 p.m. on July 31 while the store remains closed with no firm reopening date. - ➤ Albany's WAMC Northeast Public Radio aired five segments from UAlbany faculty on The Academic Minute during University at Albany Week last week—featuring discussions on emergency preparedness, climate change, antimicrobial resistance, problem gambling, and AI in public libraries. The segments reached 70 NPR-affiliated stations and online listeners. University at Albany
- ➤ Eleven UAlbany graduating student athletes were named America East Presidential Scholars on July 15 for earning a minimum 3.75 GPA — a requirement for the honor — while completing their undergraduate studies. The honorees include athletes from cross country, field hockey, soccer, softball, track, lacrosse and volleyball, with three volleyball players among them. University at Albany

- ➤ On Tuesday night, the Town of Westerlo board voted to request Albany County to install a flashing traffic signal at the dangerous intersection of County Route 401 & Route 404 after a fatal crash on June 30. The board acted after community members urged additional safety measures, and the project now awaits county approval. NewsChannel 13
- ➤ Albany County legislators Joanne Cunningham and Wanda Willingham plan to create a housing accelerator fund to boost affordable and workforce housing in areas that need new investment. The fund—seeded with $1 million from county money—will operate as a revolving loan fund that invites banks, nonprofits and government agencies to contribute, with legislation set to be introduced Monday evening.
