COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On July 26th, protesters gathered near Albany International Airport along Albany Shaker Road to ask Albany County to drop Avelo Airlines because of its ICE deportation flights. The airline said in April it would start flying deportees from Arizona + it remains unclear if other airports will be used.  Times Union

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The owner of the Albany War Room Tavern and his partners bought the old La Serre building at 14 Green St and will turn it into a membership club with 20% of its restaurant tables open to the public. The club — aimed at younger leaders and set to open on election night in November — will feature Albany’s only rooftop dining terrace.  Times Union

CRIME NEWS

  • An Albany man, 33-year-old Kyle Crayon, was arrested after allegedly stabbing a 23-year-old man on Ontario Street near Third Street Saturday at about 10:05 p.m. when the victim arrived at Albany Memorial Hospital with a severe neck wound that later led to his death—Crayon faces second-degree murder charges and will be arraigned Sunday morning at Albany City Criminal Court.  ABC NEWS 10
  • A 16-year-old was arrested after a shots fired incident near the basketball courts in Washington Park — officers pursued the teen on foot and recovered a loaded revolver — and he now faces charges of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd and Reckless Endangerment 1st.  NewsChannel 13
  • An Albany man, 33-year-old Kyle Crayon, was arrested on a Murder 2nd charge after a 23-year-old man died from a fatal neck stab wound on Saturday evening near Ontario Street — police said the victim and Crayon knew each other and were involved in a physical altercation, and Crayon will be arraigned on Sunday morning in city criminal court.  WRGB

  • Albany Academy launched a new program called Connections to link current students with alumni, parents and faculty for career opportunities (in its inaugural year). Student Teagan Moran '26 began an internship at Harmony Vet Clinic while faculty member Peter Hansen '99 started the program (designed to open career paths).  WRGB

  • Jennifer Saunders was named the first woman director of the New York State Museum after a national search, as announced by the State Board of Regents and Education Commissioner Dr. Betty A. Rosa. She brings more than two decades of museum leadership experience — most recently directing the Washington State Historical Society.  Spotlight News
