- ➤ Albany officials are hosting a community meeting at 6 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church to address a surge in youth violence following a chaotic Fourth of July weekend when a 15-year-old was shot in the foot and a 17-year-old was fatally shot; Police Chief Brendan Cox will update on safety initiatives—local organizations are set to provide additional input on community resources. - ➤ Albany lawmakers passed the Anti-harassment Reporting Act to end anonymous child abuse reports and switch to confidential reporting—now it awaits Governor Hochul's approval. - ➤ H.R. 1, the One Big Beautiful Bill, was signed on July 4 and cuts taxes for the richest while costing New York $14 billion in healthcare funds—harming many Asian American families by reducing support for Medicaid, SNAP, and education. - ➤ Albany Medical Center officials announced on Tuesday a $25 million emergency room expansion that will add nearly 7,000 square feet and 20 new patient care spaces—redesigning intake, triage and EMS areas to help reduce long wait times.
