  • Kitten Angels, a volunteer-based rescue in Mayfield, said it will stop taking in kittens due to a shortage of funding and volunteers— this pause comes during summer when about 500 animals are usually helped through foster homes and PetSmart locations.  ABC NEWS 10
  • Jordan Lemley and Vincent Castelli postponed their wedding at Lark Hall due to family medical issues and are now counting votes in the nationwide Americas Favorite Couple contest that ends September 4. The couple met 10 years ago — and they hope the contest will lift their spirits as they face these challenges.  WAMC

CRIME NEWS

  • A fatal motorcycle crash happened on Saturday night on Main Street in Delanson, where first responders could not save the biker who died at (9:44 p.m.) south of Western Turnpike and whose identity is being withheld (pending family notification) as authorities ask witnesses to contact Lieutenant Mike Geraci.  WRGB
  • A 68-year-old Rensselaer woman was arrested after she allegedly drove with a 0.19% BAC, backed unsafely, and fled the scene of a property damage crash in Ballston around 8:34 p.m. Sunday — she reportedly refused a prescreen breath test and was released on appearance tickets.  WRGB
  • Troy police are investigating a shots fired incident near 103rd Street and 8th Avenue that occurred Saturday—no injuries were reported and the suspect fled before officers arrived.  ABC NEWS 10

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A report showed that only half the Capital Region high schools offered computer science courses, leaving many students without essential computational thinking skills. Experts urged that teachers integrate these skills into regular subjects — especially in small rural schools that struggle to hire specialized staff — to prepare students for future job markets.  Times Union

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wildfire smoke from large fires in Canada will worsen air quality in the Hudson Valley and Capital Region today from midnight to 11:59 p.m.—the state DEC warns that people with breathing problems should limit outdoor activity.  Times Union

  • Thousands of athletes and fans gathered in Albany last weekend for the CrossFit Games finals on Sunday (with many from out of state) as local gym CrossFit Beyond expanded its classes (including outdoor workouts near Lion Heart on the Green) to handle the increased turnout.  ABC NEWS 10
