CRIME NEWS

  • Albany resident Patris Derville, 27, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to seven years in state prison for illegally carrying a handgun after fleeing a traffic stop near Morton Avenue and Eagle Street on March 20 (his sentence includes five years of post-release supervision) while the other driver awaits sentencing.  WRGB
  • Six Albany residents were arrested on Wednesday after police and other agencies searched four homes on Watervliet Avenue, Lexington Avenue, Thornton Street and First Avenue, finding guns and other weapons—charges include criminal possession of a firearm, weapon and stolen property.  NewsChannel 13
  • Watervliet parents Harold Warner and Jennifer Singleton were charged with two misdemeanor counts for allegedly failing to provide enough food and a clean home for their 9-year-old daughter Nathalia Warner, who died after being taken to Samaritan Hospital+ they are set to appear in court on August 19.  NewsChannel 13

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday the New York State Department of Transportation released a study with five plans to reimagine the nine-mile I-787 corridor to improve access to the Hudson River. The study starts a two-year environmental review process and sets the stage for a future project estimated at $2.8 billion to $6 billion with construction that may take up to nine years—DOT said public engagement will continue.  WAMC
  • The Capital District Transportation Authority will trim bus services beginning Aug. 24 to address a multimillion-dollar budget deficit — the changes include reduced frequencies on low-ridership routes and elimination of some services, with further adjustments based on customer feedback expected over the next year.  Times Union
