ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A porch fire damaged a historic over-200-year-old brick townhouse at 6 Aiken Ave in Rensselaer on Saturday morning as fire crews controlled the blaze by 8:40 a.m.—investigators are still examining a hoarder condition that delayed entry and no injuries were reported.  Times Union
  • A Buskirk man aged 40 died in a motorcycle crash on Grange Road in Brunswick on Friday as deputies responded at about 12:12 p.m. after reports of erratic riding — the road remained closed for four hours before reopening.  ABC NEWS 10

CRIME NEWS

  • Eli Cid Jr., involved in a roughly 10-hour standoff in Cohoes, fired two rounds at a state trooper’s shield at 7:40 a.m.—an autopsy at Ellis Hospital later confirmed he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head at 8:12 a.m. in a local residence.  Times Union
  • Two Albany women with a history of larceny charges were arrested in Bethlehem on July 15 after allegedly stealing from a Market 32 store and giving false identities, and they were later moved around the Capital District for additional charges in Colonie and East Greenbush—Wimberly remains in jail while Morales is out under probation supervision.  Spotlight News

  • On Saturday, the second annual Caribbean Heritage Festival at Jennings Landing drew over 1,000 attendees who celebrated Caribbean culture and urged lawmakers to support the New York for All Act while extra security ensured safety. The festival will continue with a 21+ Caribbean Bashment at One Dream Jamaican Café and Bar starting at 9:30 p.m.—tickets cost $25 and proceeds will fund future cultural events.  WRGB
  • The Clifton Park-Halfmoon Library recommended Emily Henry’s novel Great Big Beautiful Life for this month’s book club—Assistant Director Rebecca Verhayden explained the recommendation on CBS6—offering a fresh pick for local readers.  WRGB
