- ➤ Kevin Oberry-Hall, a 20-year-old homeless man with a record of multiple arrests in Colonie, was taken into custody on July 17 for forcible touching near a Walgreens and outstanding warrants—his previous run-ins with police include several arrests for related charges earlier this year. - ➤ Troy Police continue to search for Terry Bass, a 40-year-old woman last seen in Lansingburgh on August 3, 2023—her family remains very concerned and authorities ask anyone with information to come forward. ABC NEWS 10
- ➤ Today, the man who fired a shotgun from the steps of Temple Israel in December 2023 will be sentenced in federal court—prosecutors are seeking over 10 years in prison with five years probation as community members search for closure after the incident left them deeply shaken. WRGB
- ➤ Albany woman Maya McIntosh, 33, was sentenced to 8 years in prison for mailing drug-laced letters to correctional facilities—she mixed synthetic marijuana onto paper and will serve 3 years of probation while forfeiting $42,000. ABC NEWS 10

- ➤ On Aug. 1, UAlbany’s RNA Institute hosted World RNA Day, drawing over 200 people for lab tours and research presentations on RNA's role in disease diagnosis and treatment. SUNY Chancellor John B. King Jr. announced that the university will join Empire AI on two new projects using a supercomputer from University at Buffalo—aiming to advance research on neurodegenerative diseases. - ➤ Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli said New York faces a $34.3 billion gap through 2029 as federal cuts and economic shifts strain the state budget.
