  • Casella Waste Systems in Colonie heard meows from recycling and called animal control, which rescued two 9-day-old kittens that Noah’s Kingdom Humane Society took in (feeding them with an eye dropper) while planning to spay, neuter and test them when older (preparing them for adoption).  ABC NEWS 10

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Albany Fre Department answered a call for a fire at 176 Benson Street on Saturday when the team was dispatched at 2:55 a.m.+ arriving five minutes later, they quickly put out the blaze with no injuries while investigators examined the cause.  WRGB

CRIME NEWS

  • A homeless man with a history of assaults at Market 32, 60-year-old Paul McMahon, was arrested on July 21 for allegedly stealing items and charged with burglary—a felony—and petit larceny, a misdemeanor; he remains in custody and is set to appear in Bethlehem Town Court on Aug. 19.  Spotlight News
  • Police arrested three New York City suspects at 4:55 p.m. on July 30 at a La-Z-Boy store after they tried to use fake checks and IDs at Citizens Bank on Loudon Road; the suspects are charged with felony crimes including possession of a forgery device and attempted grand larceny and are now held in Albany County jail.  Spotlight News

  • College student Zee Camp led a ceramics class for people with disabilities in Troy at The Flour Bender Bakeshop — the workshop focused on creating a safe, accessible art space that removed physical barriers for all participants.  WRGB

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Danny Donohue, a longtime union leader who headed CSEA for 26 years, died on Aug. 10 at age 81. He fought for better pay and job protections for public workers and is survived by his wife and three children—private services will be held in Clifton Park.  Times Union

HEALTH NEWS

  • On August 3, a group of teenagers with the anti-smoking group Reality Check cleaned up Swinburne Park by collecting discarded cigarette butts and vaping devices — items that harm wildlife, soil and water. They placed 100 red flags on Wednesday to mark cleanup sites and will tell the city council to add vaping rules to the park.  WRGB
